On-Grid Solar Systems in Bangalore
Grid-tied solar systems are the most popular choice for Bangalore homeowners and businesses connected to BESCOM's distribution network. During daylight hours, your rooftop solar panels generate electricity that first powers your home or office. Any surplus generation is exported to the BESCOM grid and credited to your electricity account through BESCOM's net metering scheme — effectively running your meter backwards. At night, or when generation is insufficient, you draw power from the grid at the standard tariff, offset by the credits accumulated during the day.
With a correctly sized on-grid system, many Bangalore homeowners reduce their monthly BESCOM bill to near zero or even achieve a net credit balance in peak summer months. On-grid systems require no batteries, which significantly lowers the upfront cost, reduces maintenance, and shortens the payback period to typically 3–5 years. They are ideal for homes, apartments, office buildings, factories, and commercial establishments that have a reliable BESCOM connection.
Pratham Solar sizes every on-grid system based on your actual 12-month BESCOM bill history, your available roof area, and the shading analysis of your specific site — ensuring you maximise generation and minimise bill outgo.
Off-Grid Solar Systems
Off-grid solar systems operate completely independently of the BESCOM distribution network. A battery bank — either lithium-ion (LFP) or tubular lead-acid — stores surplus solar energy generated during the day and supplies power at night or during extended cloudy periods. Because there is no grid connection, no net metering application is needed and the system can be installed and operational within days.
Off-grid systems are the right choice for agricultural water pumps, remote farm houses, construction sites, forest outposts, and locations where a BESCOM connection is unavailable or unreliable. They are also popular in areas of Bangalore that experience frequent, prolonged power outages where grid dependence is impractical.
Pratham Solar designs off-grid systems from 1kW to 50kW with appropriately sized battery capacity based on your daily load profile and the number of backup hours required. We specify lithium-ion batteries for their superior cycle life (3,000–6,000 cycles), compact footprint, and maintenance-free operation, and tubular lead-acid batteries where budget is the primary constraint.
Hybrid Solar Systems — Best of Both Worlds
A hybrid solar system combines the financial benefits of BESCOM net metering with the energy security of battery backup. The solar panels charge the battery bank first; once the battery is full, surplus power is exported to the BESCOM grid and credited to your account. During a power cut, the hybrid inverter automatically isolates from the grid and seamlessly switches to battery power — keeping critical loads like computers, Wi-Fi routers, fans, and lights running without interruption.
Hybrid systems are increasingly popular in Bangalore's IT corridor — Electronic City, Whitefield, Marathahalli, and HSR Layout — where professionals working from home cannot afford even a brief power outage. They are equally popular in residential layouts in areas like Kanakapura Road, Sarjapur Road, and Yelahanka, which still experience occasional load shedding.
Pratham Solar installs hybrid systems with leading inverter brands including Sungrow, Growatt, Sofar, and Luminous, paired with LFP lithium battery packs from brands such as Livguard and Luminous. We configure the system to prioritise solar self-consumption, maximise battery life, and optimise net metering exports.
Solar Panel Technology We Install
Pratham Solar only installs Tier-1, BIS-certified solar panels from manufacturers with a proven track record in Indian climatic conditions. We do not compromise on panel quality because the panels will be on your roof for 25 years — the inverter and wiring can be upgraded, but the panels are a long-term commitment.
Monocrystalline PERC Panels
Standard monocrystalline PERC (Passivated Emitter and Rear Cell) panels offer 19–21% module efficiency and excellent all-round performance in Bangalore's predominantly clear, sunny weather. They carry a 25-year linear performance warranty from Tier-1 manufacturers — guaranteeing that the panel produces at least 80% of rated power after 25 years. We supply 400Wp–600Wp PERC panels from Adani Solar, Waaree, Vikram Solar, and Renewsys, all of which are BIS-certified and manufactured in India.
Topcon N-Type Bifacial Panels
TOPCon (Tunnel Oxide Passivated Contact) N-type bifacial panels represent the latest generation of commercially available solar panel technology. They achieve 22–23% module efficiency — meaningfully higher than PERC — and generate power from both the front and rear surfaces by capturing sunlight reflected from the roof surface or ground beneath the panel. N-type cells degrade at half the annual rate of PERC (0.4% vs 0.7% per year), resulting in significantly more lifetime energy generation. Pratham Solar installs TOPCon bifacial panels from Adani, Waaree, REC, and Jinko Solar, and recommends them for all new installations where budget allows.
All panels we supply carry manufacturer product warranty (10–12 years) and linear performance warranty (25 years), plus our own 5-year workmanship warranty covering mounting, wiring, and installation quality.
BESCOM Net Metering — Pratham Solar Handles All Paperwork
Net metering is the mechanism by which BESCOM credits your account for solar power you export to the grid. Without a net metering agreement, you cannot legally export to the grid, and your on-grid inverter will shut down during a grid outage (as required by safety regulations). Obtaining BESCOM net metering approval is therefore a critical step for every on-grid and hybrid installation.
After Pratham Solar completes your installation, our team prepares the complete net metering application package for your BESCOM subdivision: the Installation Completion Certificate (ICC), the Single Line Diagram (SLD) stamped by a licensed electrical contractor, Form-1, the meter sealing request, and all supporting KYC and property documents. We submit the application directly to your BESCOM sub-division office and follow up proactively at every stage.
BESCOM then schedules an inspection of the installed system, after which they install a bi-directional (net) meter and issue the net metering agreement. The entire process from application to meter installation typically takes 30–60 days, though it can extend to 90 days in busier subdivisions. Pratham Solar tracks your application and follows up with BESCOM on your behalf — at no additional charge.
PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana Subsidy — Up to ₹78,000
The Government of India's PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana provides a direct capital subsidy for residential rooftop solar installations. The subsidy structure for BESCOM consumers in Karnataka is as follows: ₹30,000 per kW for the first 2kW of installed capacity, and ₹18,000 per kW for capacity between 2kW and 3kW — giving a maximum subsidy of ₹78,000 for a 3kW system. Systems above 3kW do not receive additional subsidy beyond the ₹78,000 cap.
The subsidy is available to all residential consumers of BESCOM (and other DISCOMs in Karnataka) who register on the national portal pmsuryaghar.gov.in, apply through a MNRE-empanelled vendor, and install a BIS-certified grid-connected rooftop solar system. The subsidy amount is disbursed directly to your bank account after installation and meter commissioning are verified.
Pratham Solar is empanelled on the PM Surya Ghar portal. We assist with the complete application process: creating your portal account, uploading required documents, submitting the installation report post-completion, and following up with MNRE and BESCOM for subsidy disbursement. There is no additional charge for this service — it is part of our end-to-end installation package.
Solar Panel ROI in Bangalore
Bangalore receives approximately 5–5.5 peak sun hours per day, making it one of the best cities in India for solar energy generation. A 3kW system in Bangalore typically generates 350–400 units of electricity per month. At BESCOM's current domestic tariff of ₹6–10 per unit (depending on your consumption slab — higher consumption attracts higher tariffs), this translates to monthly savings of ₹2,100–4,000, or ₹25,200–48,000 per year.
After applying the PM Surya Ghar subsidy of ₹78,000, the net cost of a 3kW system installed by Pratham Solar is approximately ₹72,000–1,00,000. At the savings figures above, the payback period is 2–4 years. Over the 25-year warranted life of the panels, the system generates 7–10x its net cost in electricity savings — making rooftop solar one of the highest-return investments available to a Bangalore homeowner.
Pratham Solar provides every customer with a detailed ROI projection before installation, including system size, generation estimate, annual bill savings, subsidy calculation, payback period, and 25-year cumulative savings — so you know exactly what to expect before committing.
